Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Considers WWE Career; NXT Star Oba Femi’s Recent Absence Noted
PHILADELPHIA — The WWE Universe is buzzing with fresh updates involving some of wrestling’s prominent figures, including Roman Reigns, The Rock, Cody Rhodes, boxer-turned-wrestling-hopeful Tommy Fury, and NXT star Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Future Prospects
In a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns shared his perspective on the shifting main event plans for WrestleMania 40. Initially speculated to face either Cody Rhodes or The Rock, Reigns expressed that he valued being in the main event regardless of his opponent.
“It didn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns commented. He described his mindset as focused on defending his title and maintaining his position at the top, viewing both Rhodes and The Rock as challengers aiming to disrupt his reign.
The events leading up to WrestleMania 40 included some storyline twists: After Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he stated he wouldn’t challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship, sparking anticipation that The Rock would step in. However, fan reactions led Rhodes to reverse course, and The Rock turned heel, aligning himself with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock teamed to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, but on Night 2, Rhodes reclaimed the WWE title by defeating Reigns.
When asked about the potential for a future singles match between Reigns and The Rock, the Universal Champion indicated that such a match could happen if fans’ enthusiasm is strong enough. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns stated.
The Rock made a surprise WWE return last month at Bad Blood but has remained absent since. With the ongoing storyline involving different factions of The Bloodline set for a WarGames match at Survivor Series, speculation grows about The Rock’s possible involvement in building toward a confrontation with Reigns.
Boxer Tommy Fury Explores WWE Opportunities
Heavyweight boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world champion Tyson Fury, recently shared footage backstage at a WWE event during the company’s UK tour. In a YouTube video, he expressed appreciation for WWE superstars and staff, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury hinted at a potential future in professional wrestling, saying, “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” Tommy Fury, currently undefeated in professional boxing at 10-0 and notable for defeating Jake Paul, may be a strong candidate to join WWE, possibly setting up intriguing matchups given his connections, including family ties to the Paul brothers, who have been involved in WWE storylines.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Programming
Reports have emerged that former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared on NXT television or backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. His absence, now approaching a month, has drawn speculation about his status.
Femi, who debuted on NXT television in April 2023, quickly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship with a record-setting reign of 272 days. However, following back-to-back high-profile losses to D’Angelo, the reasons for Femi’s current hiatus are unclear. It may be a creative decision, an opportunity for rest and recovery, or indication of an impending call-up to WWE’s main roster.
As WWE continues to evolve its roster and storylines, fans will be watching for developments involving these key personalities in the coming weeks.
