Roman Reigns Shares Thoughts on WrestleMania 40 Opponents
In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast, WWE superstar Roman Reigns opened up about his experiences and perspectives regarding key figures in WWE, including The Rock and Cody Rhodes, as well as his involvement in WrestleMania 40. Addressing the switch in main event opponents from The Rock to Cody Rhodes, Reigns stated that the identity of his challenger was less important than being the focal point of the event.
Reigns said, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.” This comment came amid the buildup to WrestleMania 40 when Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble but initially declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship, leading to speculation that The Rock would fill that role. Fan reaction caused adjustments, and The Rock turned heel, aligning with Reigns.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes captured the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. When asked if a future match between Reigns and The Rock might take place, Reigns expressed openness contingent on fan demand, saying, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Aspirations
Professional boxer Tommy Fury has hinted at the possibility of venturing into professional wrestling with WWE. During a recent visit backstage at a WWE event in the United Kingdom, Fury shared his enthusiasm for the WWE environment and the wrestlers he met, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury stated, “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.” The 25-year-old is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, who previously competed for WWE in 2019 and has made notable appearances at WWE events since. Tommy Fury’s undefeated boxing record and connections to the Paul brothers suggest he could be a compelling addition to WWE programming in the future.
Oba Femi’s Recent Absence from NXT Programming
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from NXT tapings and television since late October. Reports indicate that Femi has not been seen backstage following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Femi rose quickly in NXT after debuting in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and securing the North American Championship by defeating Dragon Lee. His reign lasted a record 272 days until he lost the title to D’Angelo, followed by a rematch defeat at Halloween Havoc.
While the reason for Femi’s hiatus is not confirmed, possibilities include a recovery period following back-to-back significant losses, potential injury, or a planned break before a possible main roster promotion. Upon his eventual return, Femi is considered a strong candidate for pursuing the NXT Championship.
These developments highlight ongoing shifts and storylines within WWE, as the company navigates its roster and major events heading into the remainder of 2024.
