New Access to Secluded Bali Beach Set to Enhance Tourist Visits in Gianyar Regency

Gianyar Regency in Bali, widely celebrated for its cultural hub Ubud, is gaining renewed attention for its scenic black sand beaches along the coast. Among these coastal treasures is Saba Beach, a tranquil and authentic hideaway that has remained relatively undiscovered by international tourists due to limited accessibility.

Saba Beach – A Hidden Coastal Gem

Unlike many of Bali’s beach destinations, Saba Beach is notable for its striking black sand and a unique backdrop of green grazing pastures where local farmers allow cattle to roam freely, occasionally even along the shoreline. This serene setting offers an authentic glimpse into rural Balinese coastal life.

Accessibility Challenges and Community Efforts

Currently, access to Saba Beach is challenging. The existing road passes through private land and offers minimal parking, restricting its use mainly to motorcycles and local visitors. Recognising these limitations, local community leaders and authorities are collaborating to improve infrastructure. Their goal is to establish an official, public road access that will facilitate tourism while respecting the community’s interests.

I Gusti Lanang Agung Ari Putra, Chairman of Kertha Sabha Banjar Saba, has emphasized the importance of government support to develop a suitable access route. Meanwhile, the head of the Saba Traditional Village, I Gusti Ngurah Mahendradinata, acknowledged the challenge of acquiring land for infrastructure but expressed optimism about finding a solution. They have submitted proposals to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), hoping to gain policy backing for road development.

Visitor Information and Safety

Tourists are currently able to visit Saba Beach but are advised to take precautions. Swimming is not recommended due to strong rip currents and rough waves, especially at high tide. Visitors should also bring cash, as many local vendors do not accept electronic payments.

Accommodation Options

For visitors seeking to stay near Saba Beach, several accommodation options offer a blend of luxury and hospitality. Saba Estate Luxury Villas Bali provides an exclusive experience, while Saba Garden Villa offers comfortable lodging with excellent service at reasonable rates.

Looking Ahead

The planned improvements in accessibility are anticipated to support the ongoing tourism village development program in Gianyar Regency. By opening official access to Saba Beach, the local community aims to share this hidden coastal gem with a wider audience, enhancing Bali’s appeal as a diverse and culturally rich travel destination.
