Danish Tourist Dies After Snorkeling Trip Off Bali’s Nusa Penida

A 42-year-old Danish tourist tragically passed away following a snorkeling excursion near the Indonesian island of Nusa Penida. The incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when the man fell ill shortly after returning from the trip and collapsed at his accommodation in Nusa Lembongan.

According to local authorities, the tourist experienced shortness of breath and reported feeling unwell soon after arriving back at Samah Nusa Lembongan Villa. Villa staff and his companions promptly administered first aid and transported him to East Medical Lembongan Clinic. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police investigations at the scene found no signs of violence or physical injuries. Preliminary assessments suggest the man may have suffered a sudden heart attack after snorkeling. However, the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed as the family declined to authorize an autopsy.

The victim’s body was subsequently transferred to Bali Mandara Hospital in Denpasar for further handling. Nusa Penida Police Chief I Ketut Kesuma Jaya stated that the family had accepted the passing and chose not to proceed with an autopsy. The authorities have withheld the full identity of the deceased pending further proceedings.
