DNA Testing Confirms Mutilated Remains Found on Bali Beach Belong to Kidnapped Ukrainian Tourist

Bali, Indonesia – Indonesian authorities have confirmed through DNA testing that mutilated human remains discovered on a beach in Bali belong to a Ukrainian tourist who was reported kidnapped earlier this year. The victim, 28-year-old Ihor Komarov, was last seen in mid-February when he was abducted while riding a motorcycle with a friend in the southern part of Bali.

Forensic teams conducted DNA analysis comparing samples taken from the body parts found near Ketewel Beach in Gianyar Regency with those provided by Komarov’s parents. Bali police spokesman Ariasandy announced the positive identification during a briefing in Denpasar, stating, “We can therefore conclude that the body parts found in Ketewel belong to the victim who was reported kidnapped some time ago, a Ukrainian national.”

Media outlets have reported that Komarov is the son of a wealthy businessman from the Ukrainian city of Dnipro and that his kidnappers had demanded around US$10 million in ransom. Videos circulating online apparently showed Komarov injured and pleading for ransom payments. Despite these reports, Indonesian police have not confirmed details regarding the family’s background or the exact motive behind the abduction, maintaining that investigations are ongoing.
