Body Parts Found on Bali Beach Identified as Ukrainian Tourist Kidnapped and Tortured
Denpasar, Bali – March 6, 2026
Indonesian police have confirmed that decomposed and mutilated human remains discovered on a beach in Bali belong to Ihor Komarov, a 28-year-old Ukrainian tourist who was reportedly kidnapped and tortured while vacationing on the resort island.
Police spokesperson Ariasandy announced Friday in Denpasar, Bali’s capital, that DNA samples from the dismembered body matched those taken from Komarov’s mother. The identification was further supported by documents found at the crime scene bearing his name and birthdate.
Komarov, the son of a wealthy Ukrainian businessman, was abducted on February 15 while riding a motorbike in Jimbaran, a popular resort town in southern Bali. According to reports, Komarov was traveling with his girlfriend, social media influencer Yea Mishalova, who had posted a photo with him on Valentine’s Day. He was forcibly taken by a group of assailants in a car, leaving behind a friend who promptly reported the incident to authorities.
Locals soon found body parts in the vicinity of a nearby beach and river, sparking a police investigation. Authorities have since arrested the individual who rented the car used in the kidnapping. This suspect identified six other foreign nationals involved in the crime. All six are currently fugitives and have fled Indonesia. An international red notice has been issued to facilitate their capture.
Ariasandy stated, “Some carried out the kidnapping; there may be others who subsequently committed abuse. All of them are foreign nationals with multiple passports. Verification of their identities is ongoing abroad.”
While police continue to investigate the motive behind the crime, media reports suggest the kidnappers demanded millions of dollars in ransom from Komarov’s family. Authorities have not officially confirmed this as the motive.
This violent crime has sent shockwaves through the Bali community and raised concerns about tourist safety on the island. Police authorities remain committed to tracking down those responsible and bringing them to justice.
