Penglipuran Village to Host 5km Fun Run Promoting Health, Culture, and Community
BALI, Indonesia — The renowned Penglipuran Village, acclaimed globally as the winner of the UN World Tourism Best Village award, is set to host a 5-kilometer fun run open to both tourists and local residents. Scheduled for June 7, 2026, the event aims to promote health and wellness tourism while celebrating the village’s rich cultural heritage and natural environment.
A Unique Cultural and Natural Setting
Nestled in Bali’s Bangli Regency, Penglipuran Village is one of the island’s last pedestrian-only communities, surrounded by a sacred 45-hectare bamboo forest. The village offers a rare glimpse into traditional Balinese life and sustainable tourism practices, attracting visitors keen to experience its cultural depth and environmental preservation.
Event Details and Objectives
The fun run, named Penglipu-Run 2026, is designed as a community gathering with a target participation of 500 people. The route winds through Penglipuran Village and extends into the adjacent bamboo forest, providing participants with clean air, tranquil scenery, and a unique running experience. The event emphasizes wellness over competition, encouraging attendees to enjoy physical activity alongside the village’s peaceful atmosphere.
Tourism Village Manager Wayan Sumiarsa highlighted that this event is part of broader efforts to diversify Penglipuran Village’s tourism appeal by integrating cultural, nature, and health-based activities. “Until now, Penglipuran Village has been known as a cultural and environmental destination. In the future, we want to add value to Penglipuran as a wellness tourism destination,” said Sumiarsa.
Participation and Packages
Tickets for the Penglipu-Run 2026 are currently available, with early bird pricing already sold out. Regular race entry is priced at IDR 170,000 and includes access to explore the village. For a more immersive experience, runners can opt for the Stay Experience package at IDR 470,000, which includes overnight accommodation and breakfast at the Penglipuran Bamboo Cafe. Another option, the Refresh Package at IDR 270,000, provides race entry, village access, and a meal and drink at the cafe.
The race will begin early in the morning at 6 am, starting from the village’s hero’s monument, looping through the village and bamboo forest, before returning to the main tourist area.
A Community-Focused Celebration
Penglipuran Village hopes the event will draw both international and domestic visitors, fostering community spirit and encouraging a healthy lifestyle amid one of Bali’s most beautiful and culturally significant locations. Families and school groups frequently visit Penglipuran to learn about Balinese traditions, and the fun run is expected to further enhance engagement through active participation.
As interest grows, the organizers anticipate a full turnout, marking Penglipu-Run 2026 as a notable addition to Bali’s calendar of cultural and wellness tourism events.
