Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
In recent wrestling news, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on facing Cody Rhodes and The Rock at WrestleMania 40, boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a possible future with WWE, and there are growing rumors around the absence of NXT talent Oba Femi.
Reigns on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Potential Rock Match
During an interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, Roman Reigns discussed the main event scene at WrestleMania 40. When asked whether he was disappointed to face Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns emphasized that being the main event performer was what mattered most.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said. He described the challenge as defending his position at the pinnacle of WWE and blocking others from taking his spot, regardless of the opponent.
The buildup to WrestleMania 40 featured a shifting focus between Rhodes and The Rock as Reigns’ challenger. After Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble, he initially declined to face Reigns, leading to anticipation of a Rock vs. Reigns matchup. However, fan backlash caused Rhodes to reverse course, culminating in The Rock turning heel and aligning with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, before Rhodes defeated Reigns on Night 2 to claim the WWE Championship.
Reigns also addressed the possibility of a future singles match against The Rock. He indicated that if fans are passionate and vocal enough about wanting the bout, WWE’s leadership would seriously consider it. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said.
The Rock made a surprise return to WWE programming last month at the Bad Blood event but has since been absent. With a key WarGames match featuring The Bloodline scheduled for Survivor Series, speculation remains on when The Rock might reappear and restart his storyline with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Shows Interest in Wrestling Career
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently hinted at pursuing a wrestling career. Posting a video from backstage at a WWE show during the company’s UK tour, Tommy expressed appreciation for the WWE wrestlers and staff.
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day,” Fury stated. At 25, he boasts an undefeated 10-0 professional boxing record and is the only athlete to have defeated Jake Paul. Given his family ties and existing connections with boxing and wrestling communities, Fury could be a compelling new figure in WWE storylines, potentially intersecting with the popular Paul brothers.
Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Raises Questions
Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings since late October following two recent losses, including dropping and failing to regain the North American Championship from Tony D’Angelo. The reason for his absence remains unclear, with speculation ranging from a temporary break to potential injury or an impending main roster promotion.
Femi made a strong impact after debuting in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament, capturing the North American title, and holding it for a record 272 days. His return could see him positioned as a top contender for the NXT Championship, possibly taking on current champion Trick Williams.
