Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Career; Oba Femi Absent from NXT
In a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns shared his thoughts about his WrestleMania 40 main event opponents, The Rock and Cody Rhodes, as well as updates on rising star Tommy Fury’s potential WWE aspirations and NXT talent Oba Femi’s recent absence.
Reigns on WrestleMania 40 and Potential Match with The Rock
Roman Reigns addressed the changing plans leading up to WrestleMania 40, where initially he was expected to face either The Rock or Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship. Reigns was unfazed by the uncertainty, emphasizing that his priority was simply to be in the main event defending his title.
Reigns said, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It was the same task in hand for me.” After Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and initially declined to challenge Reigns, The Rock was poised to be the challenger. However, fan backlash resulted in a shift, with Rhodes challenging Reigns again and The Rock turning heel to team with Reigns.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, only for Rhodes to claim the WWE Championship from Reigns in the main event of Night 2. When asked about a possible future clash with The Rock, Reigns left the door open depending on fan interest, stating, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise return to WWE programming last month but has yet to clarify his intentions. With upcoming matches like the WarGames at Survivor Series involving The Bloodline factions, speculation continues about The Rock’s future involvement with WWE storylines, possibly leading to a showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Expresses Interest in WWE
British boxer Tommy Fury, the younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted at a possible future in professional wrestling with WWE. Posting a video from backstage at a recent WWE UK tour event, Fury expressed appreciation for WWE talent and staff, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury said, “Thank you to WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”
Tommy Fury, who holds an undefeated professional boxing record and famously defeated Jake Paul, could be a natural fit in WWE, especially considering his connection to the Paul family and the popularity of Logan Paul as a WWE Superstar. Fans may see future opportunities for matchups involving the Fury and Paul brothers.
Oba Femi’s Recent Absence from NXT
Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has not been seen on NXT television or backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Fightful Select reports that Femi’s absence, now over a month, remains unexplained.
After debuting on NXT television in April 2023, Femi quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Breakout Tournament and securing the North American Championship with a record 272-day reign. However, following two recent losses to D’Angelo—including dropping the title—and his subsequent absence, speculation has risen about his status.
Possible reasons for the hiatus include time off to recover from injuries, preparation for a main roster call-up, or a storyline pause to restore momentum. Upon his return, Femi is considered a strong contender to challenge for the NXT Championship and could be a key figure in future NXT programming.
These updates from the WWE Universe highlight ongoing storylines, future possibilities, and emerging talent within the company, keeping fans engaged as the wrestling season progresses.
