Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Considers WWE Future; NXT Star Oba Femi’s Recent Absence
In the latest updates from the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns shared his views on his WrestleMania 40 experiences and potential future matches, while boxer Tommy Fury expressed interest in a possible WWE career. Meanwhile, NXT star Oba Femi has been noticeably absent from recent tapings, sparking speculation about his status.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes Saga
During a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, Roman Reigns discussed the shifting plans leading up to WrestleMania 40, where WWE originally teased a main event match between Reigns and The Rock. However, after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and initially declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, WWE fans reacted negatively to the change. This resulted in Rhodes reversing his decision, with The Rock turning heel as “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. When asked if a Reigns vs. The Rock match could still happen, Reigns said it depends on fan demand: “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
Reigns emphasized his focus is on defending the top spot regardless of the opponent, stating, “It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now.”
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Aspirations
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, posted a behind-the-scenes video from a recent WWE UK tour event on YouTube. In it, he praised WWE Superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther and expressed gratitude to WWE for their hospitality.
Fury remarked, “I look forward to possibly climbing through the ropes one day. Who knows?” His statement fuels speculation about a future crossover into professional wrestling. Given his undefeated boxing record and connections to the Paul family—who have their own ties to WWE and boxing—Tommy Fury could appeal to both boxing and wrestling fans.
Oba Femi Missing from NXT Programming
NXT’s former North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on WWE programming since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the Halloween Havoc event on October 27. Reports indicate an absence from backstage activities at NXT tapings over the past month.
Femi had a standout run since his televised debut in April 2023, capturing the Breakout Tournament and holding the North American Championship for a record 272 days before dropping it to D’Angelo. The reasons for his recent hiatus remain unclear; possibilities include recuperating from injuries, a creative reset following his losses, or preparation for a call-up to WWE’s main roster.
When Femi returns, he is expected to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship and a central figure in the brand’s future storylines.
As WWE continues to evolve its roster and storylines, these developments highlight both the ongoing legacy of established stars and the emergence of new talent in the wrestling world.
