Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
In recent WWE news, Roman Reigns shared his perspectives on the buildup to WrestleMania 40 and his interactions with The Rock and Cody Rhodes. Meanwhile, boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a potential career in professional wrestling with WWE, and NXT star Oba Femi has notably been absent from the brand’s recent programming.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 and Potential Match with The Rock
During an interview on the Sports Illustrated podcast with Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns discussed the main event scenarios leading up to WrestleMania 40. Reigns, who headlined the event against Cody Rhodes, revealed that he was unconcerned about whether he would face Rhodes or The Rock, noting his focus was on defending his championship and being the center of attention.
Reigns explained, “It didn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. They’re trying to stop history from happening, to take us off the pinnacle, so it was the same task.”
The storyline initially saw Cody Rhodes, after winning the Royal Rumble, forgo challenging Reigns, with The Rock set to be the challenger instead. However, fan backlash led to Rhodes reversing that decision while The Rock turned heel, becoming "The Final Boss" and allying with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. On Night 2, Rhodes defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship.
Addressing whether a future match with The Rock is possible, Reigns said, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” emphasizing WWE’s responsiveness to fan demand. The Rock had recently made an unannounced return to WWE at Bad Blood but has not appeared since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring different factions of The Bloodline, speculation is growing about a potential Rock vs. Reigns showdown.
Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE
Professional boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, teased interest in a WWE career. Sharing a video from backstage at a recent WWE UK tour, Fury expressed appreciation for the WWE roster and hinted at possibly entering professional wrestling.
He stated, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?” Tommy Fury holds a 10-0 boxing record and is known for defeating Jake Paul, positioning him as a potential wrestling crossover star. Given his close ties to the Paul family, WWE might explore opportunities involving the Fury and Paul brothers, capitalizing on their mainstream appeal.
Oba Femi Absent from NXT as Future Plans Unclear
Oba Femi, a former NXT North American Champion, has not appeared on NXT programming since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. He was defeated in a rematch shortly afterward and has been absent for about a month.
Femi’s absence could be due to various reasons — from injury to creative reset after his two significant losses. Since debuting on NXT in April 2023, Femi enjoyed a strong run, capturing the North American title and holding it for a record 272 days. As NXT continues evolving, Femi is expected to return as a major contender, potentially challenging for the NXT Championship held by Trick Williams.
Wrestling fans are watching closely as these stories develop, anticipating potential matches and character progressions in WWE’s evolving landscape.
