Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury’s WWE Interest, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Potential Future Matches
Roman Reigns recently shared his thoughts about facing The Rock and Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 40 during an interview on the SI Media podcast. Reigns explained that he was not concerned about which opponent he faced, as long as he was featured in the main event spotlight.
Reigns stated, "It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. It was the same task in hand for me — defending this thing." He acknowledged that both Rhodes and The Rock were formidable challengers intent on stopping his historic run.
Initially, after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and declared he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, it appeared The Rock would take that spot. Following fan backlash, Rhodes reversed course, leading to The Rock turning heel and aligning himself with Reigns. At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes captured the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. When asked about the possibility of a future one-on-one match with The Rock, Reigns said a bout could happen if fans express enough enthusiasm. "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen," he remarked.
The Rock made a surprise return to WWE programming last month but has not clarified his intentions since. With a major WarGames match involving two versions of The Bloodline scheduled for Survivor Series, speculation is growing that The Rock could reappear to build toward a showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at Potential WWE Career
Professional boxer Tommy Fury has indicated openness to pursuing a career in WWE. He recently posted a YouTube video showing himself backstage at a WWE event during their UK tour, expressing appreciation for the wrestlers and the company’s hospitality.
Fury said, "Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?" The 25-year-old, brother of former heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, who once competed in WWE, has a professional boxing record of 10-0 and notably defeated Jake Paul.
Given Fury’s connections with the Paul family and his boxing background, WWE could potentially explore storylines involving him and Logan Paul, who is currently a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion.
Oba Femi’s Recent Absence from NXT
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared on NXT programming or backstage at tapings for roughly a month. His last televised match was a loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Since debuting on NXT television in April 2023, Femi enjoyed a dominant run, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and securing the North American Championship with a record 272-day reign before dropping the title to D’Angelo.
The reasons behind Femi’s current absence are unknown but could involve rest after recent losses, injury recovery, or preparation for a possible main roster call-up. When he returns, Femi is expected to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship.
These developments highlight ongoing storylines and evolving dynamics within WWE as the company builds toward future events and potential new talent launches.
