FINNS Beach Club Funds New Search and Rescue Helicopter to Enhance Safety in Bali

Bali, Indonesia – February 9, 2026

In a significant move to bolster emergency response capabilities on the island, FINNS Beach Club, one of Bali’s most popular tourist destinations located in Canggu, has funded a new Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter. This initiative supports the Bali Search and Rescue teams in providing life-saving services to both locals and the estimated 7 million international visitors who arrive annually.

A Cutting-Edge Rescue Partnership

Launched on February 6, 2026, the FINNS-funded SAR helicopter operates in partnership with Sayap Garuda Indah (SGI), a local search and rescue organization, and the National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia (Basarnas). The collaboration was formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding between SGI and Basarnas’ Denpasar Class A unit, underscoring strong government support for the humanitarian mission.

The helicopter’s debut featured an impressive live ocean rescue simulation demonstrating advanced maneuvers such as low-flying approaches and hoist evacuations that enable victim retrievals without requiring the aircraft to land. The event drew media personnel, invited guests, and beachgoers at nearby Berawa Beach eager to witness the technology and safety standards now available in Bali.

Paul Hussey, Chief Operations Officer at FINNS Beach Club, emphasized the vital importance of safety in their operations. “We are proud to fund and support this helicopter, and to work with SGI and Basarnas to protect the local community and tourists who call Bali their second home,” Hussey stated.

Coverage Across Bali and Ongoing Funding Needs

The helicopter will be deployed province-wide, addressing emergency situations ranging from rescuing stranded surfers near Uluwatu to evacuations of injured trekkers on Mount Agung. It significantly reduces response times compared to traditional ground-based rescue efforts.

Despite FINNS Beach Club’s generous sponsorship of the initial launch, the operation’s sustainability depends on continued public support. Annual running costs—including fuel, maintenance, training, and staff—exceed $600,000. With local government funds strained, private donations are critical to maintaining timely and effective emergency responses.

The SAR team encourages contributions, explaining that even small donations have a meaningful impact: $20 can fuel a short rescue flight, while $100 can provide essential equipment. This community-driven approach reflects the Indonesian spirit of “gotong royong,” emphasizing communal cooperation for the common good.

Traveler Safety Advisory

Officials remind tourists visiting Bali to carry comprehensive travel insurance covering emergency medical treatment and evacuation, as well as assistance during natural disasters. Understanding policy details and ensuring next of kin have access to documents is strongly advised to facilitate timely claims if emergencies arise.

With the addition of the FINNS Search and Rescue helicopter, Bali’s emergency response capabilities have taken a substantial step forward, aiming to safeguard the island’s global community and preserve its reputation as a safe and enjoyable travel destination.
