Indonesia Tightens Bali Tourist E-Visa Security and Clarifies Rules on Unpaid Influencer Work
In response to increasing concerns about online fraud and misuse of tourist visas, Indonesian immigration authorities have implemented enhanced security measures for the country’s e-visa system and issued new guidelines regarding activities allowed under tourist visas, particularly relating to unpaid influencer and content creation work in Bali.
Enhanced E-Visa Security Measures
To combat the rising incidents of online scams and unauthorized access to travelers’ immigration accounts, Indonesia’s immigration department has introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) via one-time passwords (OTP) sent to registered email addresses. Travelers applying for or managing their e-visas must now log in through the official eVisa portal using strong, regularly updated passwords that combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
These additional verification steps aim to ensure that only legitimate account holders can access visa records and travel documents, strengthening the protection of sensitive traveler information.
Clarification on Unpaid Influencer and Content Creation Activities
Alongside improving e-visa security, Indonesian immigration has issued new guidelines clarifying that unpaid influencer work and content creation performed by visitors on tourist visas are subject to restrictions if such activities hold economic or commercial value. Authorities emphasize that tourist visas are granted for purposes of travel, leisure, and social activities, and must not be used for unauthorized commercial gain.
The agency warned that even unpaid collaborations or promotional efforts may face scrutiny if financial or other economic benefits are involved. Visitors engaging in activities inconsistent with their visa conditions could face sanctions or penalties.
Permitted Business Activities and Traveler Responsibility
While limited business-related activities such as attending seminars or conferences are allowed under certain visa categories, paid work and unauthorized commercial activities remain prohibited under tourist visas.
Indonesia’s immigration authorities remind all foreign visitors that maintaining compliance with immigration laws during their stay is a personal responsibility. Tourists are urged to adhere strictly to visa terms to avoid complications.
