Indian Tourists Caught Stealing Hotel Items in Ubud, Bali; Incident Resolved Amicably Without Legal Action
UBUD, Bali — A group of four Indian tourists was found taking multiple hotel amenities and furnishings from their stay at the luxury Asvara Resort in Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali. The incident came to light during the guests’ checkout on April 19, 2026, when hotel staff discovered several missing items from the rooms.
According to Gianyar Police spokesman I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, the four tourists had checked into the resort on April 16, 2026, booking two rooms for a three-night stay. When staff noticed the absence of various hotel property—including coasters, bath and pool towels, hair dryers, kimonos, doormats, television remote controls, and cutlery—housekeeping delayed the checkout to investigate further.
During the inspection, staff found some of these items packed inside the guests’ suitcases. The tourists eventually admitted to taking the hotel goods without permission and apologized. All stolen items were returned to the hotel.
“The issue was then resolved amicably,” Suardita said, adding that the hotel management chose not to pursue any legal action against the guests.
The incident attracted attention on social media after a video emerged showing a hotel employee examining the content of luggage suspected of containing pilfered hotel property. This case highlights challenges faced by hotels in balancing guest hospitality with property security.
The Asvara Resort is located in Banjar Ayah, Kelusa Village, Payangan District, Gianyar. Local authorities and hotel management continue to monitor guest conduct to ensure a safe and respectful environment for visitors.
