Bali’s Gianyar Coast Emerging as a Must-Visit Destination for 2026
Gianyar Regency on Bali’s east coast, widely recognized for the cultural hub of Ubud, is poised to gain renewed attention as a travel destination in 2026, thanks to its largely undiscovered scenic coastline and rich cultural heritage.
An Underrated Coastal Gem
While Gianyar is traditionally celebrated for its arts and crafts, the regency’s coastline, characterized by striking black sand beaches, has until now remained a hidden treasure mostly visited by local families and domestic tourists. Saba Beach, a scenic stretch within the area, stands out as an emerging hotspot for cultural and spiritual tourism.
Community-Led Developments and Heritage Preservation
Local leaders from Saba Traditional Village recently announced plans to improve access to Saba Beach by constructing a new road, which will provide safer and more convenient travel options for visitors arriving by car or motorcycle. This infrastructure development is expected to facilitate increased tourism while preserving the area’s tranquility.
The village is also noted for its significant cultural heritage sites, including Pura Dalem and Pura Puseh temples. Head of Saba Traditional Village, I Gusti Ngurah Mahendradinata, highlighted the presence of 54 cultural heritage objects associated with these temples, some dating back to the 14th century. These artifacts and sacred sites underscore Saba’s historical importance as a center of Balinese civilization.
Ongoing conservation efforts by the village government and community are focused on protecting both the cultural artifacts and the environment, ensuring that the spiritual legacy of the area is maintained for future generations.
A New Destination for Cultural and Spiritual Tourists
With its blend of natural beauty, historical richness, and upcoming accessibility improvements, Saba Village and Saba Beach are set to attract a new wave of discerning travelers interested in cultural, maritime, and spiritual tourism. The area’s inclusion on travel itineraries for 2026 marks a significant step in broadening Bali’s appeal beyond its well-trodden tourist spots, offering visitors an authentic and immersive experience.
As preparations advance, tourism authorities and local communities are encouraging visitors to consider Gianyar’s coast, promising a unique destination where heritage and nature harmoniously coexist.
