British Father Risks Life to Rescue Drowning Tourist at Bali’s Melasti Beach
In a dramatic incident at Bali’s newly opened Melasti beach in Uluwatu, a British father courageously saved a fellow tourist from drowning amid dangerous ocean conditions. Ian Fisher, along with his wife Clare and their three children, were visiting the beach when he noticed commotion and people panicking near the shore.
According to Clare Fisher, Ian immediately spotted a woman clinging to a wooden pole close to the rocks, struggling as strong waves and currents threatened to pull her under. Without hesitation, Ian entered the water, despite the perilous conditions and the fact his previous lifeguard experience was not in the ocean environment.
Clare described how Ian fought against the powerful swell and undercurrents to reach the woman. After several tense moments when a large wave nearly swept them away, Ian and the woman managed to let go of the pole. Beach bar workers assisted by throwing a rope attached to the deck, which helped pull them back to safety.
The entire rescue took approximately four minutes but felt like an eternity to those involved. Ian later reflected on the risks, noting the ocean’s unpredictable nature despite his training. The rescued woman was reportedly grateful but visibly shaken.
Authorities had raised red “no swim” flags at the beach prior to the incident, and Clare emphasized the importance of obeying such warnings to avoid dangerous situations.
The Fisher family, who are traveling full-time, are spending six weeks in Bali before continuing their journey to Australia. They described Bali as one of their favorite destinations and shared their travel experiences on Instagram under the handle “traveltheworldfamily.”
