Top Bali Tourist Attraction Hosts Pre-Maybank Marathon Fun Run to Boost Sports Tourism
Bali, Indonesia – In the lead-up to the renowned Maybank Marathon set for August 23, 2026, Bali’s popular tourist destination GWK Cultural Park in Ungasan, near Uluwatu, recently hosted a pre-marathon community fun run event. This initiative is part of a growing trend to integrate sports, wellness, and tourism on the island.
The Maybank Marathon, also known as the Bali Marathon, is one of Indonesia’s largest sporting events. This year’s program, taking place from August 21 to 23 at the Bali United Training Center in Gianyar close to Ubud, features a full marathon (42.195 km), a half-marathon (21.1 km), and a 10K race, welcoming participants of all ages and elite athletes.
Ch. Rossie Andriani, Operations Director of GWK Cultural Park, highlighted the park’s suitability for such events: “Since the park is a well-managed area, GWK is a safe and comfortable place to exercise and run these kinds of events. We welcome the collaboration in the Road to Maybank Marathon. We hope that activities like this can provide positive experiences and make exercise a part of everyday life, thereby improving the quality of life.” He added, “We are opening up space for various community activities that support the creation of a sports ecosystem and a healthy lifestyle in public spaces.”
To support runners preparing for the big race, the Maybank Marathon team is organizing weekly long run training events held at various venues around Bali, including ITDC, The Nusa Dua, Level 21 Mall, and KCI Udayana.
Beyond the marathon itself, Bali’s running community is thriving with several fun runs and clubs. Recent events such as the Pengli-Run 5km at Penglipuran Village have attracted enthusiastic participation. Upcoming events include the Jatilwuih Fun Run on June 20 and the Bali Culture Run scheduled for July 26 in Nusa Dua. Well-established running clubs like FLOWERBOY in Seseh and RUNAMUK in Canggu offer regular group runs ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
The island is also experiencing a surge in racket sports popularity, with the recent opening of Liga.Tennis’s new venue in Uluwatu providing more opportunities for tennis and padel players.
Overall, these developments underscore Bali’s blossoming sports tourism sector, creating vibrant community connections and encouraging healthy lifestyles among locals and visitors alike.
