New Cable Car Route to Enhance Tourism at Bali’s Turyapada Tower

Bali, Indonesia — The Bali Provincial Government has announced plans to develop a new cable car route at the Turyapada Tower, a telecommunications tower located in the Bedugul Highlands, transforming it into a prominent tourist destination. This initiative is part of the second phase of development aimed at boosting tourism and local economic growth in the region.

Project Overview and Timeline

Turyapada Tower, operational for telecommunications for over a year, will soon feature a cable car system—referred to locally as gondolas—connecting an entry terminal to the main tower area. The cable car line is projected to span approximately 940 meters in length and require a land corridor about 20 meters wide. The gondola equipment has been ordered from China and is expected to arrive by the end of June 2026. Officials hope the cable car will be operational by the end of the year.

Land Acquisition and Community Engagement

The government is currently expediting the acquisition of land needed for the project, involving 44 plots owned by 47 residents. An appraisal is underway to determine fair compensation, and local authorities are working closely with the community to ensure a smooth and legally compliant process. Bali Governor Wayan Koster emphasized that residents have generally supported the development and that careful administrative steps are being taken to avoid future disputes.

Additional Facilities and Economic Impact

Beyond the cable car, the second phase of the project includes the construction of a planetarium, a convention hall, improved access roads, and other tourism support infrastructure. The estimated cost of this phase is IDR 260 billion, funded through the Bali Provincial Budget, with plans for completion by November 2026. Governor Koster expressed optimism that the enhanced tourist attraction will invigorate the local economy by creating new jobs and encouraging entrepreneurship. Local residents are expected to be prioritized for employment opportunities, and the government has encouraged community members to establish cooperatives for business ventures within the tourist complex.

Supporting Bali’s Tourism Diversity

The development aims to promote Bedugul Highlands as a key tourism area complementary to Bali’s southern coastal destinations, which currently attract higher visitor numbers. Cultural landmarks such as the nearby Ulun Danu Beratan Temple already draw travelers, and the upgraded facilities at Turyapada Tower intend to broaden the appeal of North and Central Bali.

Originally constructed at a cost of IDR 418 billion to improve telecommunications coverage in Karangasem, Buleleng, and Jembrana Regencies, Turyapada Tower is now poised to become a world-class tourist attraction, enhancing Bali’s diverse travel offerings and supporting sustainable tourism growth in the region.
