Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Impact Bali’s Top Tourism Areas, Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Bali, Indonesia – On the weekend of February 22-23, 2026, many of Bali’s premier tourist destinations experienced heavy rains and strong winds as the island remains in the peak period of its rainy season. These weather conditions have prompted warnings from local authorities and disruptions affecting both residents and visitors.

Severe Weather and Related Incidents

The Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported widespread rainfall across key regencies including Buleleng, Tabanan, Denpasar, Badung, Jembrana, Gianyar, Bangli, and Karangasem. Two major incidents drew particular attention: a large tree fell on Jalan Pulau Moyo in Denpasar, and landslides occurred in Kubusalya Village, Bangli Regency. Both events were managed by emergency responders without reported casualties.

BPBD Head Gede Agung Teja Bhunsana urged the community to remain vigilant as the peak rainy season is ongoing, with forecasts indicating continued heavy precipitation and increasing winds through late February. He also highlighted the heightened risk of falling trees and urged residents to help clear waterways to prevent flooding.

Impact on Tourism Facilities and Local Landmarks

Falling trees have caused significant damage in popular tourist spots. At Shotgun Social, a well-known restaurant near Pantai Sindhu, an iconic tree fell onto the building over the weekend, forcing a temporary closure of the playground area for safety and reconstruction. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Earlier in February, a 300-year-old Banyan Tree beside the Ubud Water Palace main office fell during strong winds, crushing several vehicles and parts of adjacent buildings. The caretaker expressed regret over the loss of this historic landmark, which had been maintained regularly.

Looking Ahead: Weather Forecasts and Precautions

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency continues to provide regular updates on weather conditions, including wave height forecasts important for maritime activities. Tourists and local communities are encouraged to monitor these updates through official channels in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

With more heavy rains and strong winds expected through the coming week, authorities reiterate the importance of preparedness and caution, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-susceptible areas.
