Big Changes Announced for Tourists Traveling to Nusa Penida, Bali
Nusa Penida, Bali – Significant improvements have been announced to enhance the experience for tourists visiting Nusa Penida, a rapidly growing hotspot in Bali Province. The Klungkung Regency Tourism Office has introduced a new system at Banjar Nyuh Harbor in Ped Village, where arrivals will undergo a streamlined process for paying the mandatory Tourism Retribution Tax.
New Arrival Process at Banjar Nyuh Harbor
All tourists traveling to Nusa Penida are required to pay the Tourism Retribution Tax, which is separate from the Bali Tourism Tax Levy. Upon payment, visitors receive a QR-code voucher that must be scanned prior to departing the harbor. To improve efficiency and reduce chaos at the busy Banjar Nyuh Harbor—the main arrival and departure point for most visitors—a newly built location now accommodates fee payment and barcode scanning.
Previously, the barcode scanning station was outdated and led to congestion, especially during rainy weather when tourists rushed for shelter. The Acting Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, Gusti Agung Gede Putra Mahajaya, explained that the new arrangement aims to provide greater convenience, enhance supervision of tourist flows, and reduce port area overcrowding.
Planned Further Enhancements
Officials are planning to establish a dedicated rest area and ticket checking point in the parking lot west of Banjar Nyuh Harbor, currently used for vehicle pickups. This facility will serve both as a comfortable waiting spot and a verification checkpoint to guide tourists before they continue their journeys around Nusa Penida.
Communication improvements will also be introduced to ensure tourists clearly understand where to go after disembarking. Some travelers will have paid their fees in advance at Sanur Harbor, while others will do so upon arrival. The new system will direct all visitors to the designated checkpoint before leaving the port, closing previous loopholes that allowed some to bypass fee payment.
Collaboration and Safety Measures
These developments follow a recent call by Klungkung Regent Made Satria for coordinated action among government agencies, including tourism, transportation, and security forces, to improve tourist arrivals and departures. The Regent emphasized the need for joint efforts to prevent any slip-throughs in fee collection and streamline processes.
In addition, the maritime travel experience is being enhanced through a new partnership between Jasindo Travel Insurance and Sanur Harbor. Beginning this week, travelers can obtain insurance coverage with premiums starting at IDR 17,500 per person. This insurance provides protection for maritime journeys lasting up to 24 hours, with coverage values reaching IDR 250 million, and can be secured directly at Sanur Port before boarding.
These comprehensive changes aim to create a smoother, safer, and more organized travel experience for the increasing number of tourists visiting Nusa Penida, reflecting Bali’s commitment to upgrading tourism infrastructure and services.
