Bali to Implement Financial Verification and Quality Tourism Measures for Foreign Visitors in 2026

BALI, Indonesia – In a move to enhance the quality of tourism and attract travelers with greater economic means, Bali is set to introduce new regulations requiring foreign tourists to undergo financial verification before entry starting in 2026. Announced by Bali Governor Wayan Koster at a recent press conference in Ubud, the planned measures include checking visitors’ bank account histories for the past three months as well as scrutinizing their travel itineraries, duration of stay, and return tickets.

The forthcoming policy aims to manage visitor profiles by ensuring that tourists have sufficient financial resources to support their stay and comply with Indonesian laws, while also respecting Balinese culture and local customs. Although the exact minimum amount of funds required has yet to be determined, the Governor emphasized the importance of transitioning from merely increasing tourist numbers to fostering sustainable and quality tourism that benefits the local economy.

Currently, foreign travelers applying for Visa on Arrival or eVisa on Arrival are already subject to showing evidence of financial capability upon request by Indonesian immigration. However, the new regulations will formalize and expand these requirements to all foreign tourists arriving in Bali.

The Bali Provincial Government is in the process of drafting the specific legislation, which will define the exact financial thresholds and other visitor conditions. Once the draft legislation is submitted and approved by the Bali Regional House of Representatives, the policies are expected to come into effect throughout 2026. These measures may also include a minimum spending policy and visitor quotas to better control tourist inflow and its impact on the island.

The official rollout of this policy reflects Bali’s ongoing commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and natural environment by encouraging responsible tourism that aligns with the island’s economic and social goals. Travelers planning to visit Bali in the near future should stay informed about the latest entry requirements and prepare accordingly.
