Bali to Implement Financial Verification and New Entry Requirements for Tourists in 2026
In an effort to promote quality tourism and manage visitor numbers, Bali Governor Wayan Koster has announced plans to introduce financial verification checks for foreign tourists arriving in Bali starting in 2026. The proposed measures aim to ensure that visitors have sufficient funds, confirmed return tickets, and clear stay plans before being allowed entry to the Indonesian island.
New Entry Policy Details
At a press conference held in Ubud, Governor Koster outlined the forthcoming policy, which would require tourists to present a verified three-month bank statement upon arrival. This financial scrutiny is intended to assess the economic capacity of visitors, encouraging tourism from travelers with higher spending power rather than focusing solely on large volumes of tourists.
In addition to financial verification, the policy will mandate that foreign tourists hold a confirmed return ticket. Authorities will also review the visitors’ detailed itineraries, including the length of stay and planned activities, to ensure compliance with Indonesian laws and respect for Balinese culture and local customs.
The Bali Provincial Government is currently drafting legislation to formalize these requirements, including specifying the minimum amount of funds tourists must have in their bank accounts. Following completion, the draft will be submitted to the Bali Regional House of Representatives for approval, with the mandate expected to come into effect within 2026. Context and Existing Regulations
These new measures build upon existing immigration policies where tourists applying for Visa on Arrival and eVisa on Arrival are already required to demonstrate sufficient funds to support their stay if requested by immigration officials.
The introduction of financial verification and stricter entry criteria reflects Bali’s strategy to balance tourism growth with sustainable and quality-focused visitation, aiming to protect the island’s economy, culture, and environment.
Travelers planning trips to Bali in the coming year are advised to prepare for these changes by ensuring their financial documentation and travel plans are in order to comply with upcoming entry requirements.
