New Pioneering Art Exhibition Opens in Canggu, Bali, Highlighting Sustainability and Community Engagement
Bali, June 17, 2026 — A groundbreaking art exhibition focusing on sustainability, creativity, and culture has opened this week at the newly launched Wija Reksa Quoriena (WRQ) Art Hub & Residency in Tibubeneng Village, Canggu, one of Bali’s top tourism hotspots. Founded by Daniel and Quoriena Ginting under the Ginting Institute, the art hub serves as a collaborative platform for artists, cultural leaders, and the wider community.
Promoting Art with a Purpose
At the grand opening, Daniel Ginting emphasized the belief that art’s role goes beyond gallery walls. “Art should open conversations, build empathy, and inspire action,” Ginting stated. “We want this space to be a meeting place for creative ideas that benefit society.” Quoriena Ginting, noted also for her Indonesian textile collections, highlighted the exhibition’s focus on environmental themes, describing the artworks as a “wake-up call” for increased public awareness of ecological issues, which are especially relevant in Bali.
Community and Youth Involvement
The exhibition features diverse works from over 20 artists across different disciplines, including paintings, installations, photography, and cartoon storytelling. Notable contributors include Made Bayak, Andry Boy Kurniawan, Jango Pramartha, and photographers Andang Iskandar and Tjandra Hutama. A special highlight is the participation of local elementary school students from the Canggu area, who took part in a plasticology workshop led by artist Made Bayak, learning to transform plastic waste into art pieces that are now showcased as part of the exhibition.
Art as a Medium for Environmental and Social Transformation
Curator Yudha Bantono explained that the Tibubeneng Sustainable Art Exhibition was designed to foster dialogue among artists, residents, and stakeholders, demonstrating how environmentally friendly materials and recycled mediums can drive social and environmental change. Bantono remarked, “This exhibition showcases how art can contribute to building awareness while offering solutions to the environmental challenges we face together.”
Community Endorsement and Future Outlook
The Head of Tibubeneng Village, I Made Kamajaya, welcomed the exhibition, noting the importance of collaborative efforts between artists and the community to address waste problems sustainably in Canggu. Bantono further emphasized the potential for Tibubeneng to become a beacon of environmental awareness amid ongoing social and ecological challenges associated with modernization.
