Bali Plans Legal Reforms to Enhance Tourist Experience and Sustain Tourism Quality
Denpasar, Bali – The Bali Provincial Government is advancing a new legislative initiative aimed at elevating the quality of tourism services and enhancing visitors’ experiences across the island. This move comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain Bali’s status as a world-class travel destination and to address longstanding challenges such as traffic congestion and waste management.
Tourism Sector Focused Legal Draft
The proposed Draft Regional Regulation on Quality Bali Tourism Business Management is currently in development and enjoys strong support from the Bali Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). DPRD Chairman Dewa Made Mahayadnya emphasised the council’s commitment to finalizing the regulation, describing it as a strategic step toward a better future for Bali’s tourism sector.
Governor Wayan Koster echoed these sentiments, underscoring the regulation’s importance for the sustainability of Bali’s tourism industry, which contributes significantly to both the provincial and national economy. He highlighted the need for comprehensive quality standards encompassing accommodations, restaurants, tour guides, infrastructure, and transportation, aiming to eliminate issues related to traffic, environment, and legal compliance.
“We must ensure that every aspect—from hotels to transport—is good and orderly to uphold the dignity and cultural value of Balinese tourism,” Governor Koster said.
Tourism Diversification Amid Global Uncertainty
Despite geopolitical tensions affecting global travel, Bali has seen sustained interest from foreign tourists, with more than 7.5 million international visitors expected this year. The Bali Travel Agencies Association (ASITA) is actively pursuing new international markets to diversify and strengthen visitor inflows. ASITA Chairman Putu Winastra identified Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as promising new sources of tourists and confirmed ongoing coordination with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Tourism to facilitate direct or commercial flights from these regions.
A High-Quality Future for Bali Tourism
Bali’s concerted efforts to standardize tourism quality through legal reforms and market diversification reflect a proactive strategy to future-proof the island’s economy and preserve its cultural reputation. Recognized as the top travel destination globally by TripAdvisor in 2026, Bali continues to focus on innovation and collaboration among stakeholders to sustain and enhance its appeal to visitors worldwide.
