Indonesia Enhances Bali E-Visa Security Amid Rising Fraud Concerns; Issues Guidelines on Unpaid Influencer Work
Indonesia’s immigration authorities have implemented new security measures for the e-visa system in Bali to combat increasing online fraud and unauthorised access to travellers’ accounts. Alongside these technical upgrades, fresh guidelines have been issued clarifying restrictions on unpaid influencer activities under tourist visas.
Enhanced E-Visa Security Measures
The Indonesian Immigration Department has introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) to strengthen visa account security. This involves sending one-time passwords (OTPs) to travellers’ registered email addresses for login verification. Visitors are advised to access the official eVisa portal only and maintain strong, regularly updated passwords incorporating uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
These steps aim to prevent scams and unauthorised access to sensitive travel documents and immigration records by ensuring that only verified account holders can manage their e-visa information.
Clarification on Visa Rules for Influencers and Content Creators
The immigration authorities have also addressed the growing trend of influencers and content creators visiting Bali under tourist visas. While tourist visas primarily cover travel, leisure, and social activities, the issuance emphasizes that unpaid work is not automatically permissible if it holds economic or commercial value.
Foreign visitors engaging in unpaid promotional collaborations or content creation must ensure their activities align with visa conditions. Any suspected commercial benefit, even without payment, may trigger official scrutiny and potential sanctions. The advisory underscores that paid work and unauthorised business activities remain prohibited under tourist visas, although limited business engagements such as attending seminars or conferences are allowed.
