Indonesia Issues Warning to Bali Tourists Over E-Visa Fraud and Unpaid Influencer Work
Indonesia’s immigration authorities have strengthened security measures for e-visas and issued strict guidelines for tourists visiting Bali amid rising concerns about online visa fraud and unauthorized commercial activities.
Enhanced E-Visa Security to Combat Online Fraud
To protect travelers and prevent scams, Indonesia Immigration has introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) using one-time passwords (OTP) sent to registered email addresses. This additional verification step aims to secure travelers’ e-visa accounts from unauthorized access. Authorities also advise tourists to access the official eVisa portal only and create strong, complex passwords incorporating uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Regular password updates are strongly recommended to enhance account security further.
Clarification on Unpaid Influencer and Content Creation Activities
The immigration department has clarified rules governing tourist visa holders engaging in influencer work or content creation. While tourist visas are primarily intended for leisure, travel, and social activities, the agency warned that unpaid content creation is not automatically exempt from restrictions. If such activities have potential economic or commercial value, they may be considered unauthorized business activities, leading to possible sanctions.
Foreign nationals traveling on tourist visas are reminded that all activities must align with the visa’s intended purpose. Engagement in paid work or unauthorized commercial ventures, even if unpaid collaborations appear involved, is prohibited. Limited business activities like attending seminars or conferences remain allowed under tourist visas, but this does not extend to earning commercial benefits through content promotion or influencer work.
Responsibility On Visitors
The Immigration authority emphasized that visitors are personally accountable for complying with all Indonesian immigration laws throughout their stay. Failure to adhere to the guidelines may result in penalties, visa revocation, or other legal actions.
Tourists planning trips to Bali and other parts of Indonesia are urged to follow the updated visa security protocols and respect the rules regarding work and promotional activities to ensure smooth travel experiences with no legal issues.
This advisory reflects Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its immigration system while safeguarding its popular tourist destinations like Bali from illicit activities.
