More Bali Tourists Opt to Ship Souvenirs Home: Convenience and Cost Savings Drive Trend
Bali, June 1, 2026 – An increasing number of tourists visiting Bali are choosing to ship their souvenirs home rather than carry them in their luggage, a trend that is gaining momentum due to convenience and cost-effectiveness.
Souvenir Shipping on the Rise
As tourists flock to Bali’s traditional markets, artisan galleries, and boutiques, many find themselves tempted to buy a variety of unique items, including handicrafts, clothing, textiles, spices, and local health supplements. However, with rising airline baggage fees and limited luggage space, more travelers are now utilizing local shipping services to send their purchases back to their home countries or other parts of Indonesia.
According to Muhammad Ekhsan, a local shipping agent who started his logistics business in 2021, demand for shipping souvenirs has increased notably, especially during peak tourist seasons such as holidays and long weekends. "Many travelers choose to ship their goods because it’s more convenient and reduces baggage," Ekhsan explained. He added that domestic tourists from across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Makassar, and Medan, are also joining this growing trend.
Popular Destinations and Items
International shipments originating from Bali primarily target Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The majority of parcels consist of Balinese crafts, fashion accessories, and wellbeing products unique to the island. Some foreign tourists who have stayed in Bali for extended periods use these shipping services to send items to family or friends back home, further boosting demand.
Integrated Services Enhance Convenience
Major logistics providers such as Lion Parcel—the cargo arm of budget airline Lion Air—are capitalizing on this trend by offering tailored solutions to tourists. Febri Andika, Chief Retail Officer at Lion Parcel, pointed out that the high mobility of tourists has created growing business opportunities in the logistics sector, including partnerships with local communities.
Lion Parcel, for example, offers free pick-up services for parcels, sparing tourists the need to visit drop-off points themselves. Deliveries can reach recipients back home before travelers even leave Bali, a marked improvement over the postal services of the past.
Value for Money Affirmed
Despite some concerns, the general consensus among tourists and logistics providers alike is that shipping souvenirs from Bali is a smart and economical choice in 2026. Travelers can enjoy shopping freely without worrying about airline weight restrictions or excessive baggage fees.
As Bali continues to attract tourists eager to bring home a piece of its rich culture, the souvenir shipping market is expected to expand further, blending the island’s vibrant tourism industry with innovative logistical solutions.
