Bali Recognized as a Top Travel Destination During US Ambassador’s Visit

This week, Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster met with US Ambassador to Indonesia Peter Haymond in Denpasar to discuss strengthening international relations, public safety, business, and tourism. Bali is projected to attract over 7 million international tourists in 2026, with a rising number of American visitors.

Ambassador Haymond inaugurated the new US Consular Agency Office in Jimbaran, aimed at enhancing services for the approximately 270,000 Americans who visited Bali last year. Notably, 80% of American tourists to Indonesia selected Bali as their primary destination. The ambassador also announced plans to establish a full US consulate in Bali, similar to those in Surabaya and Medan, complementing the United States Embassy in Jakarta.

During discussions, concerns about regional fraud and scams were highlighted, noting these issues as prevalent in Southeast Asia and affecting tourists, including Americans. Ambassador Haymond emphasized cooperation with the Indonesian National Police to combat such crimes, particularly in leading tourist areas like Bali.

The ambassador expressed a commitment to boosting connectivity between the United States and Bali by working with US companies and airlines to facilitate travel, addressing challenges such as lengthy journeys that currently involve no direct flights from the US to Bali.

For American tourists visiting Bali, the eVisa on Arrival remains the recommended visa option. Priced at IDR 500,000, it can be applied for online before travel and extended once for an additional 30 days. All international tourists must also pay the Bali Tourism Tax Levy of IDR 150,000 upon arrival or departure, payable via the LoveBali website, app, or at the airport.

The visit underscores Bali’s status as a highly sought-after international travel destination and highlights ongoing efforts to ensure safe and seamless experiences for US visitors and others from around the world.
