Bali to Host World Pickleball Championships in September 2026
Bali, Indonesia’s renowned island destination famous for its sun, sea, and sand, is set to become the hub for one of America’s fastest-growing sports. In September 2026, Bali will host the World Pickleball Championships for the fifth time, marking the biggest pickleball event the island has ever seen.
Rise of Pickleball in Bali and Indonesia
Pickleball, often described as a blend of badminton, tennis, and ping-pong, is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide and particularly in Indonesia. Played on a smaller court than tennis, this sport is suitable for players of all ages and skill levels, offering a quick learning curve and a strong sense of community and fun.
Indonesia’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, expressed strong support for the sport’s growth, stating that its court size similarity to badminton offers great potential. Indonesia is witnessing significant growth in various sports, with pickleball ranking among the top five alongside esports, padel, cricket, and running.

Bali is transforming into a vibrant sports and fitness destination, with numerous activities from running clubs and gyms in Canggu to yoga studios in Ubud and world-class surfing spots in Uluwatu. The island’s growing sports culture brings together locals, tourists, and expatriates alike.
