Bali Immigration Provides Clear Guidance on Tourist Visa Extension Process

Denpasar, Bali – In an effort to streamline and clarify the visa extension process for tourists, the Bali Immigration Office has issued detailed guidance to visitors planning to extend their stay on the island. This move comes amid increasing digitalisation of Indonesian immigration procedures, making travel and visa applications more straightforward for visitors.

Digital Visa On Arrival and Extension Options
Most tourists arriving in Bali use the eVisa on Arrival, which costs IDR 500,000 and can be applied for online prior to arrival. This visa is initially valid for 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days, allowing a maximum stay of 60 days in Indonesia.

Tourists who require an extension must complete what is called the Hybrid Application Process. This involves submitting an extension application online through the official Indonesian Immigration website, followed by an in-person appointment at a designated Immigration Office to complete biometric data collection, document verification, and sometimes an interview.

Designated Immigration Offices Based on Location
One key clarification provided by the Denpasar Immigration Office is that the address listed on the visa extension application determines the immigration office where the applicant must attend their appointment. The Denpasar Immigration Jurisdiction includes Denpasar City, Gianyar Regency, Bangli Regency, and parts of Badung Regency such as Mengwi, Abiansemal, and Penang.

Specifically, tourists staying in popular tourist areas like Canggu, Seseh, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur, Ubud, and Kintamani have their extension appointments at the Denpasar Immigration Office.

Those residing in Tabanan Regency or Klungkung Regency are assigned to the Tabanan Immigration Office or the Klungkung Immigration Office, respectively. This includes visitors in areas like Kedungu, Tanah Lot, Balian, Bedugul, and Jatiluwih who will attend the recently opened Tabanan Immigration Office. Residents or visitors in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and Semarapura must attend the Klungkung Immigration Office. Meanwhile, those in northern and western Bali are called to the Singaraja Immigration Office.

Appointment Timelines and Compliance Enforcement
Tourists applying for visa extensions should be prepared to attend their in-person appointment within 48 hours of submitting their application, considering working days. This hybrid application system, introduced in May 2025, was established to better enforce immigration regulations amid rising concerns of foreigners violating visa conditions such as unauthorized work or investment activities.

To further support immigration enforcement and enhance tourism safety, Bali has launched the Dharma Dewata Immigration Task Force. This unit conducts regular patrols in major tourist resorts and international community hotspots. Hendarsam Marantoko, Indonesia’s Director General of Immigration, emphasized that these measures represent a tangible government presence aimed at prevention and law enforcement.

Bali Regional Immigration Head Felucia Sengky Ratna stressed that the patrols aim to uphold Bali’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for tourists who respect local laws and traditions. The coordinated supervision and inter-agency synergy are part of broader efforts to foster quality and sustainable tourism on the island.

The updated guidance and enforcement efforts aim to reduce confusion among tourists, ensure compliance with immigration laws, and maintain Bali’s status as a top international tourist destination. Tourists are encouraged to stay informed and follow official procedures when planning to extend their stay in Bali.
