Bali Streamlines Visa Extension Process to Enhance International Tourists’ Experience

In an effort to simplify travel and encourage longer stays, Bali’s immigration authorities have clarified and digitalized the process for extending visas for international visitors. This move aims to improve the overall travel experience as Indonesia continues to modernize its immigration systems, especially benefiting tourists arriving under the popular eVisa on Arrival (eVOA) scheme.

Easy Entry via eVisa on Arrival

The eVOA has become the preferred method for most travelers entering Bali and other Indonesian destinations. Available online before arrival, it eliminates the need for embassy visits and extensive paperwork. Upon arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, tourists can use automated gates for swift entry. Initially, the eVOA permits a 30-day stay, catering well to typical holiday durations.

Simplified Extension of Stays Beyond 30 Days

For travelers wishing to extend their stay beyond the standard 30 days, Bali’s immigration office now offers a more transparent and digital process. Visitors can apply for a 30-day visa extension online through the official immigration portal by providing passport and travel details. The extension fee is IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 35). Most applicants do not need to visit the immigration office in person unless additional documentation is necessary.

Step-by-step, tourists are advised to apply for their extension at least seven days before their current visa expires to avoid any penalties. Upon approval and payment confirmation, they receive notification of their extended stay, effectively allowing a total stay of up to 60 days in Indonesia.

Options After 60 Days

Tourists wishing to remain beyond 60 days must consider alternative visa categories such as tourist, social, or business visas, aligned with their purpose of visit. Bali authorities caution against overstaying, which carries fines, penalties, or possible deportation.

Benefits for Tourists and Travel Industry

The enhanced clarity and digital ease of the visa extension process not only benefit tourists but also assist travel agents and tour operators in managing client itineraries more flexibly. This initiative supports Bali’s growing appeal as a long-stay destination for holidaymakers and digital nomads alike.

Future Outlook

Bali’s commitment to continuous digital transformation in immigration procedures signals ongoing advancements aimed at making the island one of the most tourist-friendly destinations worldwide. Travelers can look forward to further streamlined processes that allow them to focus more on exploring Bali’s unique culture and natural beauty rather than on bureaucratic hurdles.
