New International Partnerships Aim to Elevate Bali’s Tourism Experience

Bali, Indonesia – In a significant move to strengthen international relations and boost the tourism sector, Bali Governor Wayan Koster recently met with Turkish Ambassador to Indonesia Talip Küçükcan to explore new avenues of collaboration between the two countries. The discussion focused on enhancing visitor experiences in Bali, Indonesia’s flagship tourism destination, through expanded bilateral cooperation.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations for Tourism Growth

Ambassador Küçükcan expressed appreciation for the warm reception in Bali and highlighted the importance of deepening ties beyond national leadership, emphasizing closer regional cooperation. Turkey, which has witnessed a tourism boom with approximately 60 million visitors annually, sees Bali playing a pivotal role in fostering mutual growth.

A key highlight of the partnership is the robust air connectivity between Istanbul and Bali’s Denpasar airport, operated by Turkish Airlines with over ten weekly direct flights. This route is expected to gain further popularity as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affect travel patterns, positioning Bali as a more attractive stopover for European and North American tourists.

Infrastructure Development and Future Prospects

The North Bali International Airport project was a central topic during the talks. This long-anticipated infrastructure venture is aimed at boosting Bali’s capacity to handle growing tourist numbers and enhancing regional development. Ambassador Küçükcan offered Turkish expertise in infrastructure, noting Turkey’s experience in airport construction in various countries, including Vietnam.

Governor Koster welcomed the support and emphasized the need for continued collaboration at the regional level to complement established government-to-government relations, particularly in advancing sustainable and high-quality tourism.

Expanding Partnerships Beyond Turkey

In addition to strengthening ties with Turkey, Governor Koster also engaged with Swiss Deputy Ambassador Mathias Domenig, focusing on support for Balinese products and local businesses. Switzerland, though representing a smaller share of tourists to Bali, is valued for its culturally respectful visitors and high-spending tourists. The ongoing collaboration aims to promote Balinese goods internationally while fostering innovative solutions for sustainable tourism development.
